In 2019, Carol Josefczyk transitioned into the ICF program after living on family property where maintaining her residence independently had become difficult. At that time, she often relied on others for transportation and daily support. Although she held a driver’s license and had an impressive 20-year work history with Eat’n Park, she faced challenges sustaining full independence.
Through the structure, guidance, and skill-building opportunities provided in the ICF setting, Carol began developing the tools she needed to successfully manage her own home and responsibilities. She worked diligently on strengthening her daily living skills, budgeting, transportation planning, and overall self-sufficiency.
Her hard work paid off. Carol secured employment at Walmart, demonstrating continued dedication to maintaining meaningful employment. She went on to purchase her own vehicle – a major milestone that restored her independence with transportation and opened new opportunities for autonomy.
In October 2025, Carol achieved an incredible accomplishment: she successfully transitioned from ICF to the Waiver program with minimal supports. This transition reflects not only her growth but her determination, resilience, and commitment to independence.
Today, Carol maintains her home, manages her employment, and navigates her community with confidence. Her journey is a true example of how structured support, paired with personal motivation, can lead to lasting independence and success.
Carol’s story reminds us that growth is possible at every stage, and with the right support system, individuals can exceed expectations and build the life they envision for themselves.
